Ok I read the headline like 5 times then started to read the comments. Felt like I was standing too close to a microwave or something. What is actually happening here?

I have lost all respect for Bradley, his fact checking is severely lacking, not to mention clickbaity titles . I haven’t clicked on that article.

Sturgis is happening. Which means 250k bikers will crowd into a tiny town and COVID-19 will spread like wildfire among them. They will return home and spread it there. Man y will die. Many bikes will be sold because the owner is now dead.

It sucks all around like most of 2020.
I feel for those businesses that bank on this.
I feel for those citizens of Sturgis that didn’t want this to happen.
But most of these people can get fucked.

I don’t even recognize his name that’s how often I make it to the FP but that title got me.

I went to the FP story. Took two goes to load the page and another three to see the first of the comments. This is why I never go to the FP...

They’ve pulled articles and turned off comments on stuff in that past haven’t they? Everything in there kind of... sucks.
I really don’t like BB . His writing is probably worse than mine, and “ooooh these boomer bikers don’t believe in this virus so they’re gonna die” is a massively shitty take that didn’t need to be made. Everybody knew that already. It seems to me that BB specifically enjoys arguing in the comment section. Look at the section in that article specifically. It’s not befitting of a journ alist, and comes with the conclusion that Jalopnik, and G/O media as a whole, is cheapened and holds less stature in the Automotive News sector.
From what I’ve seen, the only “merits” he has as a journalist are:
-He owns a few old Porsches
-He started (helped start? Can’t recall specifics) Radwood
Pretty sure he also used to work at ECS Tuning, so in my book, he’s automatically a knob and a leech on DIY automotive enthusias
m.

They can’t handle the truth.
...and I’m pretty sure they’re secret buddies with Earther.

You make some salient points for sure. I don’t really know the guy from Adam. Can’t say I’ve read anything he’s written before but that title ... I just had to check out the comment section.

“he also used to work at ECS Tuning”
That means he has some of my money, the bastard.

Same, bought a VW ABA PCV setup from them when I was younger and dumber, when it arrived, it was still in the box Uro had drop shipped it from, cost like five bucks more having bought it from ECS instead of direct from Uro, so that was a mistake.

Thanks for your perspective as an SD resident. Stay as far away as you can from Sturgis as you can for a while.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 10:26 |

Pretty easy for me, Sturgis is a 6 hour drive away at 80mph. My father, who is (SHOCKINGLY) a FL resident is there on his hog however. Bonus points.
It’s just a shitty deal because the town will get sued into financial ruin if they try to stop it/slow it down, so they’re doing their best to quietly walk away while not doing anything that would publicly suggest it’s not still happening, while all these vendors are foaming at the mouth for a bunch of people who “Can handle the flu” and “don’t need no fucking masks” to buy their shit.
Our gov is a female trump impersonator at this point, unsure if she’s working on her presidential bid for 2024 or what.

I’ve been back and forth on how well my state,
Ohio,
has been handling this. Early in the pandemic it seemed to be handled well. Then the Governor reopened against the advice of advisors with a relevant backg
round, but at least there’s a mask mandate now? I’m disappointing with the (lack of) action regarding school openings.

generally won’t read his stuff. Glib, arrogant and intentionally inflammatory. His Murray interview was good but that's mostly due to being mostly someone else's words.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 10:45 |

He has zero merits as a journalist, he’s a self-hyped blogger with an overly inflated sense of self importance.

I enjoy his F1 takes, and he seems to have toned down the vitriol towards commente rs. But yeah, he takes a stance and dies on the hill. Every time.

Seems about right. I t ook a look through his backlog and I didn’t see anything really redeeming.

The one reasonable take I have on the Sturgis rally :
Some people are willing to take the risk of exposure to a deadly virus to participate in the activities that make life worth living.
If Sturgis is the one shining beacon of happiness in your dreary day to day, then maybe it’s worth the risk. Also, maybe you should take all the precautions you can if you want to participate: Wear a mask, avoid crowded buildings, etc.
That said , I’m pretty sure that the majority of people in attendance will not have put in the full consideration of “living your life” vs “avoiding a pandemic”.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 11:14 |
|
If the people only risked themselves I’d have 0 issue with them being willing to take the risk of exposure to a deadly virus to participate in the activities that make life worth living.

Wasn’t he the FP guy that almost died last year and swore he was going to live in a camper after his near death experience?
![]() 08/05/2020 at 11:52 |

But that’s not a problem only during a pandemic, that is a problem that exists everywhere in life.
For example: e very time you drive on a public road, you risk your life and the lives of everyone else in the cars around you.
Granted, Sturgis is going to be a lot more unnecessary risk and likely a lot less preventative measures, but in a perfect world with proper education and information disclosure and leadership , it could be a choice that people could make on their own.
I’m not going to hold much of a grudge against those who go to S turgis, but I am going to continue to be extremely annoyed by those who actively ignore the advice of the scientific community by not wearing masks and gather in person indoors.
(Yes, I realize that potentially includes everyone in attendance at Sturgis, but I won’t blindly assume that’s the case. There’s a closer problem, since we have plenty of people who don’t comply in stores that require masks . )

Damn local business owners.
If only they offered takeout/delivery
just during Bike Week to the entire world they could keep the population of Sturgis safe, and still make that $$$$$

My sister and her husband live 30 minutes from there. My brother-in-law is an avid rider and usually swings through the rally for a few hours. Naturally, he won’t be attending this time around and they’re a bit nervous about what’s to come of this.

Yes.
*Corrections* It is a small ‘weekend’ trailer towed with the Buick wagon including the wife and dog . Basically a micro step further than ‘van life’. H e was apparently going to sell the house.
Real jump off the deep end plan and reasonable commenters suggested he slow his roll and build up to see if it works.

I blame both and then some . Kinja because Kinja. Internet because satellite internet and it s high latency is not allowed for in website design. And whatever Gawker Media is now for the editorial and advertising layout that piles misery onto complication.
